Increasing visibility will create an increase in utilization (demand) of the services the library provides will directly lead to an increase in community support for maintaining funding for our library in the annual budget. This will avoid painful cuts which lead to a loss of full accreditation from the state and loss of access to the full range of services provided by being a member of a regional library network. At a minimum this critical funding level must be maintained in order to have a free and strong public library.

Above this we should look for other ways to increase funding for our library in order to fund necessary capital projects and improve current programming and infrastructure. As a trustee I will work with the Friends of the Hull Public Library and the Hull Public Library Foundation to improve and increase their fundraising efforts. I will also look at best practices of other public libraries that have had successful capital campaigns and find ways to utilize these in Hull. We should also continue to look for various grants and private funding to lower the costs from debt service and minimize the increases in the share of the town budget required by the library during lean fiscal times.
